Mike Parker led from the start in the Calliope 3000 m walk championship. His time of 14:28 could well be an the fastest time ever for his 55-60 age group on a grass track in New Zealand. His time bodes well for a for a really fast time on a synthetic track later in the season. Nic Alley performed very well to come home second (18:46) in his first ever race walk on a track. Frank Smedley was third in 19:17 - well below his last season's best of 16:22.

Newcomer, Dave Macmillan, took out the discus by some 45 cm. He certainly looks like he has a good few metres yet in him.
